45.Philippe Chatrier tennis court @ Roland Garros 2009, originally uploaded by °Doudou°.

A shot of the Philippe Chatrier tennis court at Stade Roland Garros – the French Open.

Roland Garros was, we learn from Wikipedia, “a pioneer aviator (the first to transit the Mediterranean Sea by air successfully), engineer (inventor of the first forward-firing aircraft machine gun), and World War I hero (the first pilot to be called an “ace” after shooting down five enemy aircraft), who was killed in aerial combat in 1918.”

Court Philippe Chatrier was thusly named in 1998 for the long-time president of the Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT) who helped restore tennis as a Summer Olympics sport in 1988.

The other main court at Roland Garros is
Court Suzanne Lenglen, named for “the first true star of women’s tennis” who won 31 major tournaments, including six French Open titles and six Wimbledon championships, between 1914 and 1926, as well as two Olympic gold medals in Antwerp in 1920.

Thanks to Wikipedia for all of that information.

Giant metal ice cream cone, originally uploaded by LoganGorilla.

The Chalice (by Neil Dawson) is a large sculpture in Christchurch Square in New Zealand. The cathedral and many of the surrounding buildings were damaged in the severe earthquake earlier in 2011, but the Chalice – erected to celebrate the new millennium and the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Christchurch and is made up of leaf patterns featuring different NZ native plants – still stands.
