Bananaquit Bird, originally uploaded by Patti-jo.

A bananaquit bird, often called the sugar bird, photographed in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

These birds usually feed on nectar, but unlike hummingbirds, cannot hover. It will also eat fruit and insects.

Thanks for choosing my photo for your blog! These are the most amazing birds to watch with their bright personalities and high energy. It was surreal being there to see all the beauty on the island and I consider myself so fortunate to have captured some of it on camera. 🙂
