Ceiling of St Georges Hall, originally uploaded by Swamibu.

Edward III was born in Windsor Castle in 1312, and in the 1360s, St. George’s Chapel (or Hall) was built to be used by the Knights of the Order of the Garter, which he founded. (To this day, only the reigning monarch can bestow the honour of membership in the Order, and no more than 24 people aside from the Sovereign and the Prince of Wales can be Knights or Ladies of the Order at any given time.)

The ceiling of the Hall is covered with the coats of arms that represent the members of the Order. (You can see the list of current members of the Order at Wikipedia.
