A Better Place for a Banff Canoe Ride, originally uploaded by NaturalLight.

I’ve never been to Alberta – I’ve flown over it a couple of times – but I had no idea how gorgeous the Banff area was.

Located in the Rocky Mountains and near-ish to Calgary, Banff is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the highest town in Canada (elevation 1,383 metres (4,537 feet)) and has, among other things, an RCMP detachment, a post office, a public library, and a provincial court of law.

And what a fabulous picture, showcasing the water (glacial run-off, full of silt particles that give it the colour), the mountains, and the forests. You can see more of this photographer’s Western US and Canada Mountain photos here.
