Limes, originally uploaded by dustinj.

This post brings the first month of SeenonFlickr to a close – I have really enjoyed this project, I hope you have enjoyed the photos and my rambling commentary on each!

Today’s photo is a lightbox creation, I love the vibrant colour and the just-off-centre composition; the idea is interesting and the execution is great!

Thatched cottage – Thornton le Dale, originally uploaded by DeeGee1966.

Today’s photo is of one of my favourite things in England: the thatched cottage at the bend of the river in Thornton le Dale. This town in North Yorkshire is very pretty, with a lovely stream running through it and lots of buses of tourists clogging up the town by coming to see how pretty it is. (Learn more about the town here.)

One of the major attractions is this thatched cottage; I don’t believe anyone lives there, which is too bad, but I love it and have imagined living there since I was very young.

The river is very shallow just at this point, and my sister and I have spent some lovely times sitting on the bank just upstream from the cottage, dangling our feet in the water.

Love, originally uploaded by Asia5555.

What I like about this photo: the creation of the image, the cherries just so, the water, the wee droplets all around, and the reflection of the cherry in the centre-foreground.

And now I’m really hungry for cherries. Only … five and a half months until Ontario season starts!

Lion Yawn_0011, originally uploaded by Baloozer.

Today’s photo encapsulates how I feel on this very snowy day: tired.

I really love the capture of the lion’s yawn, and of course his little kitty face. (Or, rather, giant could-eat-you face. Whatever.)

NICE KITTY.

Penguins Under Car Warning, originally uploaded by Wananga.

I agree with the original poster, it really does look like the penguins are doing brake repair!

Honestly, I don’t have anything to say photographically about today’s picture. It just made me laugh. (Penguins! Doing car repairs!)

Plus, I started reading Ernest Shakleton’s South today, so I have the southern hemisphere on my mind!

Happy Chinese New Year!, originally uploaded by seannyK.

Happy Lunar New Year!

I love the glow from these lovely lanterns, and the full-frame shot; for all we know, there are lanterns spreading off to infinity in all directions!

Portcullis, originally uploaded by ruth and johnny, london uk.

Today’s photo was chosen for its connection to Tudor history. Today, January 25th, is the anniversary of the marriage of Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn; that happened in 1533. A little more than three short years later, she was executed, having been charged with adultery, incest, and treason.

Today’s picture, a menacing shot of a portcullis, is from Hever Castle, best known as Anne’s childhood home.

What I like about this picture is the angle, the inclusion of the brickwork and the vines, and the place it was taken.
